The minister of Information and Communications Technology said that the president had ordered the Ministry of Communications and the Central Bank of Iran to hold a joint meeting on digital currencies and to propose a new policy.
In the course of today’s meeting held with the participation of the ministers’ cabinet, Mohammad Javad Azarijahromi talked on the subject of Postbank issuing a digital currency, IRNA news agency reported.
The necessary studies have been carried out, but the central bank has used a banning policy on all digital currencies.
He added:
At the central bank of Iran’s request, Access to all the websites, exchanging cryptocurrencies were blocked through the Prosecutor’s Office.
Azarijahromi added:
A view has recently raised at the Supreme Council of Cyberspace and the Government: cryptocurrencies are not necessarily threatening and that they can create opportunities.
Azerijahromi pointed to the president’s order to hold a meeting with the central bank and said:
The newly appointed president of the central bank is involved with fixing the currency rate in Iran, but we will try to hold this joint meeting next week and make a decision.
